Two formats, one offer
HTML can combine headings, branded colors, images and buttons. Plain-text email relies on words, paragraph breaks and links. Both can communicate the same offer; the right choice depends on your message and audience.
When HTML helps
Use HTML when a product photograph, a clear visual hierarchy or a prominent action button makes the offer easier to understand. Keep the layout simple and readable on a phone. Add meaningful alternative text to important images and avoid putting the entire offer in a picture.
When plain text helps
A concise text message can suit a straightforward service offer or an initial conversation. It needs less design preparation and remains understandable when remote images are disabled. Short paragraphs and a direct next step matter more than decoration.
Compare the same content
For example, a freight offer can use a branded HTML heading and quote button, or a short text introduction followed by a request for the route, weight and volume. Keep the offer and audience comparable when evaluating the two formats.
Check delivery and readability separately
Neither format guarantees inbox placement. Some email clients block remote pictures, and layouts can vary between devices. Test your links, make the message readable without images and provide a clear opt-out in either format.
Judge the result by useful responses
Start with a small, appropriate test and compare the enquiries or replies relevant to your goal. Sending activity alone does not establish that a message was read or that it generated a sale. Use the results to refine the message and format.
